A Little Story About Us
Sunny Express Gourmet Fast Food in Compton was founded by four individuals with a deep passion for food. Together, they bring over 25 years of combined experience in restaurant service and hospitality. The original vision was to introduce a healthier and more diverse selection of Santa Monica-inspired dishes to the corner of S Acacia Avenue and W Compton Boulevard in October 2019.
In 2020, one of the founders took on the Veganuary challenge and began a personal journey toward reducing meat consumption. Through this experience, he discovered that dining out while embracing a plant-based lifestyle was both difficult and costly—especially when trying to enjoy a meal with the entire family.
Motivated by this challenge, the team began exploring ways to make affordable vegan and plant-based meals accessible to everyone. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, they remained committed to expanding their plant-based menu, setting a bold goal: to fully reimagine their Chinese and Mexican offerings as delicious, plant-based alternatives.
By 2021, the majority of traditional meat-based dishes had been successfully transformed into vegan-friendly versions. Despite the challenges, the team stayed true to their mission—and by 2022, the goal of creating a fully plant-based menu had been achieved. This small corner restaurant had evolved into a recognized destination for vegan cuisine.
Today, Sunny Express Gourmet Fast Food stands as a symbol of innovation, community, and commitment to healthier living. And our story is just beginning.
